What, I never posted about my latest novel, Final Girl.

Final Girl practically killed me. I had to relive getting pushed out of the conservatory, rough family situation, and the way I spent my whole twenties rootless and sometimes homeless, all lost and disconnected. 

But it's also about how one person's music can become incredibly important to you, you can study it, and that can save you, both as a composer and a person. Oh so dramatic! But also true. I telescoped a bunch of decades out of that story. You're welcome.

It does what I wanted it to do! Good job, book!

AKA the Becca book all throughout the podcast. It's out! I forgot to tell you! But here it is: The Esker Road   Yessssssss. My best book yet. It's twisty and complicated and heartbreaking. It tricks you and is so stressful. And the last time I read it, it made me burst into tears. And I mean, I wrote it. So I recommend it. Pay close attention as you read. If you think something contradicts something else, that should put you on high alert.    What else is happening. I'm writing the sequel to  Summerlands  because that ended in an unsatisfying way for me, right when things were getting really interesting about the older people.  It's weird to write about older people who are nonetheless much younger than me. Um. Okay. What else? I saw some old friends and got adamant I had to be true to myself or something and write music again after forty years of NOT doing it due to Conservatory Trauma. The Murderbot TV adaptation

Ahhhhhh! I watched the whole first season Thursday. The episodes were short and not episodic, so it was one big thing cut up into episodes instead, really. The casting was brilliant, even for this face-blind person, such that it was immediately obvious who everyone was and it was very easy to keep them all straight. If you don't have face blindness, well, it's very hard to tell unfamiliar people apart or figure out who's who when they have similar looks. These actors were visually distinctive and wore distinctively different clothing. Is this what it feels like when something is translated into sign language for you, or there are captions on photos? Because that felt like such a kind and generous thing to do. I really appreciated it. It would have been so easy to put them all into uniforms. Things I loved about the adaptation: The cast.
